- مهمترین عامل شکل گیری تمدنها در طول تاریخ،مسائل اقلیمی و جغرافیایی بوده است. شکل گیری تمدنها در کناره رودها و جلگه های حاصلخیز و خوش آب و هوا،دلیلی بر این ادعاست که آسایش بشر در درجه اول اهمیت قرار داشته و دارد. پیرو این اهمیت،انسان دارای آرزوها و خواسته ها و پرسشهایی بوده که مفاهیمی مانند آرامش وآسایش،جاودانگی از اصلی ترین آنهاست که در اثر تجربه وقایعی مانند مرگ،خشکسالی،جنگ و کشتار،بیماری... تبدیل به آمال و آرزوهای او شده است. صلح،زایش و نامیرایی، آب و آبادانی،قدرت و اقتدار،امنیت،پرواز،...از دغدغه های انسان در طول تاریخ بوده است. این مفاهیم جان بخش، غالبا از دایره علم بشر فراتر بوده و توضیحی منطقی برای بسیاری از آنها وجود نداشته است. بنابراین مسائلی ماورائی پنداشته میشوند و ارتباط انسان با عالمی دیگر از طریق مفاهیم اسطوره ای برقرار میگردد و نمادهایی رمزگونه شکل میگیرند.
